Welcome to Jackdaw recordings.
Jackdaw is a non-profit organisation. It started as idea for a community based project to support and promote unsigned local artists. It has become an online independent record label set up to represent new movements in Electronica, Folk, Pop and experimental music.
Currently you can preview tracks on our label website and there are free downloads available. Also there are a range of MP3s that can be purchased from the audio shop, with all proceeds being fed back in to the promotion and development of the artists.
A series of 7 inch singles from a number of artists and bands on the Jackdaw roster is planned next. This series will build in to a collectable set with matching artwork from aspiring local artists.
At Jackdaw we are always on the look out for new talent and listen to every demo sent to us personally. Our attention can be grabbed via the contact link.

Modernaire have quickly established themselves as one of the most exciting new acts to have sprung from the drizzly city of Manchester. Cruella De Mill provides the voice, Oscar Wildstyle the music, and Chesty La Rue the onstage flair. Midnight synthesizers and drums of war underpin choral harmonies and more hooks than a fisherman's pocket.
Modernaire burst onto the scene with their unnamed first EP, which despite being recorded in a tiny bedroom on a laptop, won them fans such as Xfm’s John Kennedy and Dave Haslam, who both played them repeatedly on air. It got unanimously good reviews in the local press, and Modernaire songs began to pop up on compilations such as High Voltage’s Full Charge and Across the Pennines 2. After their third ever gig they were taken on tour by the Hot Puppies as their main support, and have since played around the country with the likes of Dragonette, The Whip, The Holloways, Ratatat, Yelle, Performance and many more. They’ve also remixed The Holloways, Daggers, The KBC and others, including the Hot Puppies, who returned the favour by covering the Modernaire song Taste live on Radio 2. They have headline gigs lined up as far afield as London and Paris
Their eagerly awaited second EP, their first on new independent label Jackdaw, opens with live favourite (and future 7” single) Bloodshed in the Woodshed, setting the tone with a murderous stomp of revenge and despair. Rain bemoans the northern climate, before the true tale of two female pirates, Bonnie and Reade, is told in harmony . Scalpel is the best ever song to mention both the NHS and Calpol, Nosferatu brings some Halloween chic to the disco before September, the saddest month. Their cello-laden version of The Hot Puppies single Terry closes the EP in sombre style.
